Cards swatch – a trending Web design
26 Jul 2015

Good web design is about the character of the content, not the character of the designer.” (Jeffrey Zeldman)

On Google, the search queries show a number of links of affiliated websites. Most of the websites which are present on the first page of the search results have a different kind of web design. This web design must not call as such but it should be referred to as ‘cards’ swatch or a form of web design in which the texts and images are encased within a rectangular box. This form has come to existence since it augments and highlights the simplicity without mitigating the rate of usability and user interface.

Reasons for popularity

There is always a reason about popularity and fame. Fame is never reasonless. And all those out there who run after new trends must know their pros and cons. For the illustration and expansion of precise information, images, contents, headlines etc. must be incorporated in the card format. Keeping things within the desktop i.e. a part of rectangular box makes them mobile responsive and pretty much voguish.

Pinterest

The best so far example of card’s layout is Pinterest. Pinterest has focused majorly on the initial card scheme but with time evidently a number of changes have been witnessed such as flat design scheme. Furthermore, Facebook and Twitter have also adopted the cards layout in order to represent the respective user profiles within the container styled page so as to augment the trendiness in addition to maximum usability.

Singular Card

One should know what a singular card must incorporate. A singular card must entail one singular subject. Though this singular card must have numerous images, but the subject will always be one. On clicking this subject, elongated information about the relevant subject is obtained.

Container style

The container style is pretty much vast. This container style is vigilant in magazines, grids, flat designs etc. Why we incorporate all of these under the heading of container style since the aim is one, a single box is subjected to a single subject.

To make my conversation more elaborate, a container comprise of numerous grids of cards arranged in a schematic manner. This container styled format is essential since it is capable of resizing along with the screen to which it is being observed.

“Designers love subtlety cues, because subtlety is one of the traits of sophisticated design. But web users are in such a hurry that they routinely miss subtle cues.” (Steve Krug)
