Revolution in iHome Clock Radios

The iHome Clock Radios which have been around for over nine years have slowly and gradually revolutionized in their shape and design. When one looks at the first iHome clock radio device that came out back in 2005 and the present-day iBN10, he would observe a clear evolution in shape, design and aesthetical appeal. iHome clock radios had a pretty distinct shape in the past which just changed slightly in color or shape whereas the general design stayed the same. With the iBN10, iHome clock radios broke away from their traditional design and went forward to create a new breed.

Changes in the new iBN10

In the iBN10, they cleared away with the dock which used to be on the top, changed the clock design and shifted its position towards the right side from its previous centered position and added four speakers inside the station instead of the regular two speakers. iBN10 has been manufactured utilizing high standard material instead of the faux metal which the previous midrange iHome speakers have become known for. The speakers have also gained the Speakerphone functionality. This might not be the first full-sized iHome speaker box but it definitely is the most sophisticated one till yet.

Dimensions and changes

iHome’s iBN10 measures 9″ wide by 4.25″ deep and 3.9″ tall. With this speaker set we have seen the change in iHome’s direction. The change is towards minimalism as can be observed by seeing the lack of plethora of controls that were included in the previous speaker boxes. Many of the minuscule features have been chopped and tossed away. The iBN10 lacks any alarm so mainly your iPhone/iPod will be responsible for making the alarm calls. The buttons to control the battery powered clock have been carefully hidden on the backside of the unit.

Features

The portable speaker set still includes many features such as a nifty little radio feature which is tuned to catch FM frequencies and a USB port which allows easy charging of your Apple devices.

Performance

When compared to the big portables, the iBN10 is a little on the quiet side when placed on high volumes whereas there was a little distortion in the notes on the low end. Stereo separation is another unusual feature because it is unheard of to have three speakers on one side, and one on the other. As a speakerphone the iBN10 can be said to be a good performer because callers described our voice as intelligible and only slightly muffled which is a pretty good review.

Conclusion

So what is the most interesting feature in the speaker? It’s mainly the pricing. The speaker is priced at $120 which is lower than both small and large portable speakers while the speaker includes the added features like clock, radio and speakerphone. The only thing that you would end up lacking is portability. From our perspective the iHome isn’t a perfect device but the price and features that are packed in this speaker set make it a good choice if not the best.
